The Gower Nightingale Ballads, songs and mouth music from South Glamorgan recorded in the 1930s & 40s’ - Phil Tanner with an introduction by Wynford Vaughan Thomas Phil Tanner is one these islands’ greatest traditional folk singers. He had sung all his life in the small village in South Wales where he was born but wasn’t recorded until he he was in his seventies. These are all the recordings that were made in 1937 and 1949 plus an evocative radio broadcast by the renowned Welsh author Wynford Vaughan Thomas, who first described Phil Tanner as the ‘Gower Nightingale’.
