The English Folk Dance and Song Society was formed
in 1932 by the merger of two organisations, the Folk
Song Society and the English Folk Dance Society formed
by Cecil Sharp in 1911.
Decades later, the Society is active in providing support
for educators, researchers and folk activists in music
song and dance. It holds and maintains the Vaughan Williams
Memorial Library, one the nations premier collections
of folk books, manuscripts and recordings, and works
to promote the folk music of England to the people of
the world.
